Caramel
Apple
Crumble
I love this recipe because it is so versatile & delicious. You can use it with all sorts of fruits besides apple (pears, peaches, plums) and have a yummy dessert that is sure to please.
4 Granny Smith apples/peeled & cut into 1/2 inch slices
Caramel Sauce (click the link for my recipe below to make from scratch or use your favorite store bought)
1/2 cup flour
1 1/2 cup quick oats
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup chopped nuts (your choice)
1/2 cup avocado, canola or olive oil or butter
Pinch of salt
You can use a pie tin, or any baking dish you prefer ( I use an oval baking dish, see photo). Peel and slice apples and toss with caramel sauce. Use just enough caramel sauce to give the fruit a light coating. Pour the fruit into pie pan/baking dish. Mix flour, oats, brown sugar, nuts, salt, and oil/butter. You want just enough fat in your mixture to give it a crumbly texture. Sprinkle crumble mixture over the fruit. Place dish on top of a cookie sheet before putting into the oven, this will help prevent drips coming over the edge and dropping into the bottom of your oven.
Bake for 45-55 minutes at 350 degrees. Check at 45 minutes to check texture of fruit. Some like it really soft while some like it to still have a little bite. You choose. This dish is best served 5-10 minutes out of the oven, while it is still hot but not too hot. Scoop into bowls and top with vanilla ice cream or Chantilly cream (sweetened whipped cream). See the video below to see how wonderful this looks coming right out of the oven. Enjoy!
