Applying sprinkles
To cover the sides of your frosted cake, simply take a handful of the sprinkles and toss/press them against the side. Turn the cake as you go until all sides are covered. You can always go back and touch-up any areas that look a little bare. Make sure to put your largest sheet tray underneath your platter before you begin, to help catch stray sprinkles.
Other toppings
This technique works with a large variety of different cake toppings. Try it with all different types of chopped nuts and candies. Slivered almonds, chopped pecans and Heath Toffee Bits are some of my favorites. Nerds candy would look so colorful and fun if you have a child who loves those candies. The options are really endless. Have fun with it.
easy clean-up
Don’t worry if you get a little wild with your application of the toppings. You can always go back and clean-up any strays with a pair of tweezers, as I did in the photo above. You can always cover the entire cake and not just the sides with your topping of choice. You don’t have to be nearly as precise if you cover the entire cake.
